A+ Educators first annual Common Core Conference was held November 2-5, 2011. With carefully selected and sequenced keynote presentations, inspiring breakout sessions and ample time for personal engagement, networking, relaxation and exploration of the surrounding Phoenix/Scottsdale metropolitan area, it was truly an invigorating conference experience for all involved.

Here’s what a few attendees had to say about the conference:

“I feel ahead of the game now!”

“Absolutely excellent! Extremely helpful!”

“I can use this Monday morning. Loved everything.”

“Exceptional resources—motivational [and] inspiring—made me want to be back in the classroom.”

“Relevant, engaging, important information and tools we can use when we return. VERY helpful.”

Some conference highlights included:

  • Deborah Wortham set the tone with a message emphasizing the importance of leadership in times of change.
  • Lisa Carter shared a blueprint for Total Instructional Alignment with the CCSS.
  • Kentucky’s pioneering experiences with CCSS implementation were explored by Terry Holliday.
  • Karen Young offered attendees an immersion in technological resources that support scaffolding and accelerate learning.
  • Mike Schmoker emphasized three areas of school-wide focus, outlining the reasons why these are even more significant with the implementation of the CCSS.
  • Erik Palmer provided a dynamic and engaging keynote on the CCSS oral language requirements.
  • Gregg Catalano’s grand finale offered useful and proven strategies for increased happiness, wellness and energy.
  • Daily breakout sessions gave participants the opportunity to further explore concepts in smaller and more interactive groups.

It was an honor to host this important event and we’re already looking forward to next year! Make sure to check back in the coming weeks for more information on the 2012 Common Core Conference. Dates will be posted to the A+ Educators website soon.
